Hotel Room Unit

The Midland Hotel posed a fundamental challenge in refurbishment of the rooms; original rooms had no en suite with a communal bathroom at the end of each corridor; the plan depth of the rooms was too narrow for a conventional hotel bathroom arrangement; the corridor sweep and it relationship to the stair drum were key conservation consideration. So faced with immovable space planning constraints we set about designing an item of fitted furniture that would combine all the facilities and functionality you expect in a modern hotel room (wardrobe, desk, TV, minibar, shower, washroom, toilet) into a single unit that both acted as a room divider and freed up circulation space in the room. The toilet was hidden in the end of the unit, out of sight and allowing the washroom and shower to be open to the space, but creating as separate enclosed bathroom when the toilet is in use.
